A group called Opportunity Nation has ranked Alaska 19th on their "opportunity index," which purports to measure "economic, academic, civic and other factors together to help identify concrete solutions to lagging conditions for opportunity and economic mobility." O-kay then.
Alaska's overall score of 54.7 puts us above their national average of 50.9. We're also above average in two of the three sub-areas they measure, economy and community, but well below the national average in the third area, education. Overall Vermont is #1 with an index of 65.9, and Nevada is dead last with a 37.9.
